It is tough just to narrow down a Top 20 from over 500 different wines but, we have done it with your help!

The following “Top 20 Wines” to enjoy over the festive season have been selected by you. They have received the thumbs up through The Somerset Wine Fairs, Saturday Tasting Benches and general wine buying throughout the year.

FIZZ

Brilla Prosecco, Italy £11.99A vibrant and bright dry style of Prosecco offering lots of green apples, citrus fruit. The bubbles are lovely and lively with a delicious long finish.

Jules Feraud Champagne, France £24.99 70cl, 35cl £12.49, 150cl (magnum) £49.99 Scrumptious nose of caramel and buttered toast, grilled nuts and pistachio shells. This is a flavoursome champagne with a nuts and crumble palate, fresh acidity and a long length. Vegan

A.R Lenoble Intense Champagne, France £39.99 Grower own Brother and sister working together to create this “intense” Champagne. Aged in magnums slightly less contact with lees and softens the acidity of the wine. From both Grand Cru and Premier Cru vineyards. Rich ripe fruit with a lovely creamy texture, body, complex with length.

White Wine

Sutton Ridge Bacchus, Somerset £13.99 Made from the bacchus grape this wine has a beautiful open nose of elderflower, lush green apples with a lovely floral note of green nettles. Deliciously mouth watering, full of flavour and a gentle spicy finish. Vegan.

Mesa Trinas Torrontes, Argentina £8.99 Torrontes is a lovely grape from Argentina but not so well known. It gives really fresh aromatics with peach, orange blossom, green pears with a lovely citrus lift at the finish.

Domaine de la Baume Viognier, France, £11.99 Grapes are from the Langudoc Roussillon region in the South of France. The viognier is aged on its lees for 3 months to add richness and texture to this wine. Deep yellow plums, apricot and white peach. Lovely with white meat dishes.

The Eleanor Chardonnay, South Africa £27.99 This is stunning! Rich, elegant, complex with so much going on and beautifully balanced. Stone fruit, peach, tropical with a touch caramel on the finish. Worth every penny and more.

Domaine Francois Le Saint Sancerre “Silex” France £27.99 From organic and biodynamic vineyards rich in mineral. Lots of fleshy green fruit, melon and tropical fruit. Full and rich with racy fresh acidity and great length.

David Franz Old Vine Semillon, Australia £23.99 From vines that are over 100 yrs old from a single vineyard. Delicious honey notes with rich lemon rind, lemon curd and delicate herbal notes. The length goes on and is incredible!

Red Wine

Vinha da Fonte, Touriga Nacional, Portugal, £9.99 With a premium grape touriga nacional and a splash of alicante bouschet to give a lovely depth of colour. Deep black cherries and spice with firm tannins and a lovely juicy finish.

Domaine de la Baume Merlot, France £11.99 Grapes are from the Langudoc Roussillon region in the South of France. The wine is made to express the fruit giving you a wine of wild strawberries, plums and cherries and berries. With just a layer of spicy and a smooth finish.

Caiaffa Negroamaro, Italy £12.99 An organic family run winery in Puglia who ensure synergistic balance between man and nature. hand harvested natural yeast and aged in oak for 3 months. Deep rich fruits & spicy with a a silky soft texture.

Mount Ted Pinot Noir £19.99 A stunning organic Pinor Noir from Central Otago, using natural yeast and hands off winemaking. 11 months in French oak gives dark berry fruit and spice with a touch of savouriness adding complexity to this elegant wine. Vegan

Ch.Val D`Or St.Emilion, France £19.99 Full of chocolate, plum and a sprinkling of spice and pepper. The acidity is still fresh and there is a dusting of tannin on the finish. Marry well with roasted red meats, game or stews.

David Franz Plane Turning Right, Australia £23.99 A blend of merlot, petit verdot and cabernet sauvignon. David calls this wine “Yummy” & I agree! Fab floral aromatics with lush blackcurrants and morello cherries, juicy, complex with a great length.

The Stork Shiraz, South Africa £47.99 A wine made in honour of a well loved man who’s nickname was “The Stork”. Limited volume this award winning wine is rich, smooth and full bodied with elegant freshness. Lovely black fruits with cherries and floral violets.

Fortified

Barbadillo Pedro Ximenez La Cilla £22.99 The richest and sweetest of the sherries made from sun dried pedro ximenez grapes. Aged for 5 years producing a smooth velvet wine rich in raisins plums and dates. Perfect with chocolate ice cream and cheese!
