A case created to support South African wine.
One of our forward thinking suppliers Nik Darlington (he brings us the gorgeous wines of David Franz) has started a nation wide campaign in celebrating braai cooking and fine South Africa wine for the upcoming Bank Holiday weekend.
A word from Nik “South Africa has been in coronavirus lockdown for nearly 2 months with some of the strictest quarantine rules in the world. Uniquely it seems, South Africa’s wine producers have been unable to sell their wines domestically or – until very recently – export them around the world.
Wine is the second biggest agricultural export for South Africa, contributing 49 billion rand a year and supporting nearly 300,000 jobs. It’s believed the export ban has cost producers at least a billion rand in export sales. The UK is South Africa’s biggest export market and they need our help in getting the wheels turning again.”
1 x Bon Courage Sauvignon Blanc.
We love Jacque from Bon Courage, pictured left in the photo above. Every wine is packed with flavour and character. This is his awesome Sauvignon Blanc that really surprised me. Fresh vibrant green apples with a lovely grassy note with a a hint of white pepper on the finish.
1 x De Wetshof Estate Bon Vallon Sur Lie. A vibrant Chardonnay that has received lees ageing and no oak. It reminds me of zesty lemon meringue pie on the nose. This comes through with a lovely texture that is fresh with a mineral finish. Tonnes of flavour… A Chardonnay with freshness and zing!
1 x Jordan Inspector Peringuey Chenin Blanc This Chenin Blanc comes from old vines on a cool site which maintains the freshness in the wine. Partly aged in French oak giving a lovely richness and body to the wine. Lush rich fruit with a touch of spice and a long length.
1 x False Bay Pinotage. The grape variety pinotage was created in South African and is their signature variety. Nadia winemaker does it justice and makes a full bodied wine with a heady mix of berry fruit, rich chocolate and plums supported by soft tannins. Great wine with roast meats.
1 x Babylonstoren Babel A blend of shiraz, cabernet, pinotage gives a full bodied wine with spice blackcurrant and notes of chocolate. A really lovely smooth wine perfect for Braai cooking and warm evenings! We will meet Klass the winemaker again for a winemaker dinner.
1 x Bon Courage Cabernet Sauvignon Rich blackcurrant, fresh strawberries and bramble fruits. With a touch of vanilla and spice with a lovely nuttiness to the finish.
