Top 20 Wines for Christmas 2018

It is really tough to pick just 20 stand out wines for Christmas. The following list are a range of classics perfect for Christmas. Wines that have been consistently chosen by you throughout the year at tastings and wines I have found this year that I think are just stunning.

Sparkling

Vilarnau Reserva Cava, Spain – £11.99 –Classic Cava. Incredible sparkling wine from Spain. Made in the traditional method and aged for nearly 2 years. Richness and complexity, freshness and delicate toasty notes

Jacques Bruere Brut Reserve, South Africa – £16.99 –New find, really excited for this wine, really just so good. A classic blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, that has been rested on its lees for 36-48 months. This makes it such a stunning wine and awesome value. Jacques has created an intense wine with rich creamy biscuit notes packed pick fruit and elegance!

Jacques Bruere Cap Classic Rose – £16.99 –As with the Brut a new find that was a must have. The rose is made with Pinot Noir aged for 5-6 years. Just stunning, fine bubbles, with a lovely rich mouth feel and long length. The bubbles give way to lovely soft red berry fruits and toast.

White Wines

Bon Courage Sauvignon Blanc, Robertson South Africa – £8.99 –New Find Sauvignon Blanc – This is an awesome Sauvignon Blanc from South Africa. Fresh vibrant green apples with a lovely grassy note with a a hint of white pepper on the finish. Everyone with love a glass of this!

Villa Borghetti Soave, Italy – £8.99 –Classic wine that has been loved through by you. Restrained notes of toasted almonds and marzipan with a nicely textured palate. Rounded and soft with a good length. Beautiful with seafood

Villa Blanche Chardonnay, France – £10.99 –Tasty find this year, French without the price tag. If you are a fan of Macon Chardonnay then buy this. A gentle oak ageing gives it a rich rounded feel, whilst retaining the vibrant freshness. Lovely warm stone fruit. Fab with turkey and white meat dishes.

Gran Passione Blanco – £12.99 –Loved by you at The Summer Wine Fair. A blend of garganega and Pinot Blanco, part aged in barrel and stainless steel. A beautiful floral wine with hints of vanilla ripe fresh fruit with a vibrant acidity. Excellent with turkey and pork dishes.

Two Rivers Sauvignon Blanc – £13.99 – Favourite of ours and yours and you got to meet the winemaker this year too! Winning Gold for his winemaking skills David Clouston is a genius with sauvignon blanc. Intense tropical gooseberries fruit with classic mineral finish. Beautiful with fish dishes.

Chateau Montelena Chardonnay -£54.99 – Just because you deserve it, it’s on my Christmas wish list as is the red! The iconic Chardonnay that put Napa wines in the spot light. Showing so much depth of flavour, honey notes blossom, with just a gentle touch of oak. Rich smooth and buttery with a wonderful finish.

Red Wines

Irene Morales Carmenere & Cabernet Sauvignon, Chile – £12.99 –Loved at every wine fair and tasting it’s shown at! A blend of two grapes, the lesser well known grape Carmenere with the popular Cabernet Sauvignon. Full bodied with notes of blueberry, black pepper and some blackcurrant leaf. Versatile wine with red meats, cheese and the glass of wine just to sit back and relax! 

Pin des Marguerites ‘Tradition’, France- £11.99 –Loved wine at the Saturday Tasting Bench. Awesome and beautiful wine that shows beautiful floral notes with black cherry plums and warming red fruit. Great acidity with integrated tannins. Match this with roasts meats and relax meal of sausage and mash!

Snapper Rock Pinot Noir, New Zealand – £13.99 –This is loved year in year out and can’t be missed off the top 20! A succulent Marlborough Pinot Noir in a light to medium bodied style. Aromas of strawberries and raspberries with floral undertones. Great by itself or enjoyed with roasted lamb.

Les Polissons Malbec de Cahor, France – £13.99 –This is a great wine but only a limited number of bottles left! Produced with 30 year old vines aged without wood to maintain those lovely vibrant fruits of malbec. Wonderfully fresh blackberry and black fruits with ripe tannins and fresh acidity. Great with game, grilled fish and meats.

Calmel & Joseph Les Cru Montpeyroux, France – £15.99 –Loving this wine that I found in the latter part of the year, we showed at the winter wine fair and scored top wit you guys too! This is an equal blend of syrah, grenache, mourvedre and carignan. Showing such beautiful floral and herbaceous notes, elegant red and black fruits with. A stunning wine with complexity and length.

Two Rivers Brookby Hill Syrah, Marlborough – £20.99 –Shown at the winemaker dinner with David and this was the top selling wine of the night! A peppery and meaty syrah with a lovely herbal aroma of thyme. Rich concentration of fruit red and black fruits. Vibrant acidity and a beautiful long length.

Château de Braude Haut Medoc, France – £24.99 –A Christmas list wouldn’t be Christmas without a cassis rich Bordeaux! A mouth watering full bodied Cru Bourgeois from the Haut Medoc in Bordeaux. Rich black cherry, plums and cassis with deeper notes of leather and spice. An elegant wine with structured tannins and length.

Famiglia Pasqua Amarone Pasqua, Italy – £25.99 –Famiglia Pasqua is a winery we work directly with from Italy who make beautiful wines and we felt their top wine deserved a place.Rich with herbs, spice and lots of black cherry with mulberries. This is a serious wine with richness leading in to a long silky length. Allow this wine to breath, its big and goes great with game and rich stews.

Au Bon Climat Pinot Noir, California – £25.99 –Because I just love this wine, elegance in a glass. Handpicked early in the morning, with 10 months in French oak it shows floral notes, violets, rose with rich strawberries and a touch of spice and earthiness. An elegant style of Pinot Noir.

Birichino Old Vine Grenache, California – £26.99 –Shows the elegance of grenache. Superb wine and shows the vibrancy of the grenache grape from over 100 year old vines. Natural yeasts aged in French oak. This wine is floral, red berry fruits spice. A real treat – Love this!

Chateau Montelena Cabernet Sauvignon, California – £54.99 –Just because you deserve it, its on my Christmas wish list as is the white! An incredible wine which is silky soft with so many layers of fruit, spice and earthy notes. The length of this wine just goes on with lovely cinnamon, cloves & mocha. It shows elegance coupled with power!
